PA State Safety and Emissions Inspections

Is your inspection and emissions test due?
Are you still 3 months out from needing a state inspection?
Need a semi-annual commercial vehicle inspection?

The state of Pennsylvania requires all vehicles to be inspected annually for the safety of the driver, passengers, and other travelers on our roadways.

Auto Würks is a licensed inspection station and our mechanics are licensed for PA state inspection and emissions testing. We do vehicle inspections and emissions testing, even up to 3 months in advance from the date of the required renewal. For example, if your inspection is due in August, we can inspect your car in June and still apply an August sticker.

INSPECTIONS

For the PA state inspection, we check all safety components: braking system, fuel system, control arms, suspension system (front and rear suspension, bushings, springs), all lights, the windshield, windshield washer and wipers, horns, tie rod ends, all steering components, tires and wheels, windows and mirrors, speedometer and odometer, seat belts and safety equipment.

We will check for anything unsafe, visually inspecting the body and chassis of your vehicle for rust and leaks. We will look for anything that would put the vehicle or driver at risk. For example, we inspect for sharp edges, excessive oil leaking, etc…

Here’s a tip: If there’s a crack in your windshield in front of driver’s view the size of a license plate, your windshield will fail inspection.

EMISSION

We run a state computer test in order to determine proper functionality of all emission components.  Emission monitors within your vehicle need to be complete or “ready” for your vehicle to pass emissions. To explain, each vehicle is equipped with monitors that report back to your car’s computer system on your vehicle’s emission levels.

Some of these monitors run intermittently, and if these monitors are not “ready” or complete, your vehicle may not pass the emissions test.

Sometimes after clearing your check engine light (clearing your fault codes), extensive driving will be necessary for your monitors to report back information and for your vehicle to pass the emissions test.
